Truth or Success? Plato’s Gorgias
What is life ultimately about? And what kind of life will make me most happy? In the Gorgias, Plato’s Socrates confronts us with an answer: the kind of life we should live should be one in which we ultimately seek the truth and help others do the same. But the Sophists – master teachers of his day – urged that the path to true happiness was found in getting what you want, in winning. Most fundamentally, life is about power. So who’s right? Come explore these and related questions as we read aloud selections from this highly influential Socratic dialogue. No advance preparation required.
