The phenomenon of freedom is not new. Thinkers have been wrestling with the reality of our decision-making for millenia. In the past three centuries, though, a generally greater distribution of wealth has brought economic freedom to new light. For instance, more people now more than ever are asking the question: what should I do with my money? Now more than ever people’s general freedom is linked to their financial freedom.
In this reloaded resurrection of the Dead Economists’ Society, our purpose is to examine this question of economic liberty and attend to the subsequent questions it raises. Philosophers from across time and politics will help us consider these questions, questions such as: What is the government’s role in my economic freedom? How does our individual economic liberty interact with others’ economic liberty? Where does the line between my possessions and my neighbors’ possessions begin and end? And finally, how should each of us exercise our economic liberty?
