Since “The Music of the Future” that was heralded by its prophet Richard Wagner, what we call classical music has been intentionally redesigned in to something that might not be in fact the heir to Wagner. In this lecture, Andrew Balio recounts the steps that the slow revolution of modernism has taken inside the sphere of what we call classical music, and where it really took us, despite its intended course.
A concert will follow this lecture and discussion at the Shepherd School of Music’s Edyth Bates Hall.
Andrew Balio is principal trumpet of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Executive Director of the Future Symphony Institute.
All undergraduates, graduate, and medical students are welcome.
